Earth, from orbit, now
Two kinds of picture exist from space right now. One is moving video from the International Space Station, about 400 km up, which shows the ground sliding by at 7.6 km per second. The other is still images from geostationary weather satellites, 36,000 km up, which show a whole hemisphere every ten minutes at 1 to 2 km per pixel. This page puts both in front of you, with the time on every frame.
International Space Station, live
Cameras mounted outside the station. NASA runs two views; Sen runs a 4K camera set with a wide horizon view, a straight-down view and a view of the forward docking port. The feed drops to a placeholder when the station is out of contact with the relay satellites, which happens a few times a day. That is the real state of the link, not a fault on this page.
If the frame is dark or shows a logo, the station is out of contact. It returns within minutes.

Geostationary weather satellites, latest frame
These satellites sit over one spot on the equator and photograph the whole disk they can see. Himawari-9 (Japan Meteorological Agency) covers East Asia and the western Pacific. GOES-East and GOES-West (NOAA) cover the Americas and the eastern Pacific. The images are fetched from each agency, held briefly on this site, and shown with the capture time. Nothing is enhanced.
Frames refresh on their own: Himawari every 10 minutes, GOES every 10 minutes. The time shown is the start of the scan, in your local time.

What no satellite can show
- A chosen point on Earth, live, at a resolution where people or cars are visible. Satellites that see that well fly low and pass over a spot for a few minutes a few times a day.
- A geostationary view sharper than about 500 m per pixel. At 36,000 km the camera cannot resolve buildings.
- A view of the station's own choosing. The ISS cameras point where they are mounted; you cannot steer them.
What you are actually seeing
- ISS video: live, delayed only by the relay path and the streaming service, from 400 km up, one orbit every 93 minutes.
- Himawari-9: infrared at 2 km per pixel works through the night; true colour shows only the sunlit side.
- GOES GeoColor: a daytime true colour composite; at night it switches to an infrared rendering with city lights from a static layer, which NOAA labels as such.
