What to do when you get there
A koban is a small police box with officers on duty. The officers may be out on patrol; if nobody is there, call 110.
A chūzai-sho is a police post in the countryside where an officer lives with the family and looks after the area.
Convenience stores of the Safety Station chains take in women and children who run into the store in danger, protect them inside, and call the police when needed. About 57,000 stores take part (Japan Franchise Association). Many are open all night.

What is on this map
6,270 police boxes, 5,469 residential police posts, 1,340 police stations and headquarters, and 45,563 stores of the Safety Station chains, from OpenStreetMap as of 2026-09-29.
Not on the map: 737 places that are not staffed police (for example Tokyo's community safety centres, which are former police boxes without officers) or have no name, and 355 stores of brands that no longer exist. The map data is made by volunteers, so a store that closed or moved may still be shown.
Minutes on foot are the straight-line distance divided by 80 m a minute. The real route is longer.
Security cameras and traffic surveillance cameras are not on this map. A camera records; it does not send someone to help you.
