Method

Every known GTFS-Realtime VehiclePositions URL in Japan that is published as open data (GTFS data repository, operator sites, prefectural platforms) was fetched once and decoded; vehicles = entities with a position; age = seconds between the feed header timestamp and the fetch.

This survey looks at whether a feed exists and how fresh it is; it does not rate operators. Zero vehicles means none were running or reporting at that moment.
